Shulman, Benjamin (“Benny”)
Son of Simcha and Bilha. He was born in the city of Hadera on July 9, 1946. He completed his studies at the elementary school in Ahad Ha’am, and as a student in elementary school, he stuck to the sea and soon joined Zevulun He became a second home in which his love for the sea was made with deep professional knowledge, he was part of the naval section of Hapoel in Hadera, he was trained as a sailboat commander in the Gadna-Yam course in Acre in July 1963, The graduates of the course have a two-day sailing from Haifa to Famagusta. After this voyage he found no rest in the coastal works, because he loved the sea very much; And the 16-year-old boy found a way to get a job on a fishing boat, and in May 1964 he was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces and was asked to serve in the navy, but he was not allowed to do so and he was placed in the infantry unit in southern Israel. He was active in guiding youth, organizing cruises, and, above all, taking an active part in the sailing competitions, and he became a loyal member of his friends after his release from the army (August 1966). In his last exile (from 7.6.1967), Benjamin wrote out of his typical optimism: “I hope that the struggle will soon end with our hands on But in the battle that took place in the Gadot sector, Benjamin was wounded on the fifth day of the fighting and five days later died of his wounds, on the 13th of Nissan 5767 (June 13, 1967). He was buried in the military cemetery in Nahariya and later transferred to the eternal cemetery in Hadera. The battalion commander and his company commander who came to bring this news to his home told the story of the heroism of the son who managed to rescue the wounded under the enemy shells – but that he himself was mortally wounded then.
