Shulamit, Yitzhak


Son of Henia and Eliezer, from Moshav Kfar Yehoshua, was born on the 8th of Av, August 14, 1929. During the riots of August 1929, his mother gave birth to him and in the riots of 1936-1939 she was murdered. At the age of 17, he participated in a course for scouts. A year later, he joined the Palmach, completed a course in seamanship at Michmoret and continued his work and land training in the ma’abarot. Yitzhak participated in bringing the illegal immigrants to the Negev and when the British seized the ship and the Palmachim who came to its aid, Yitzhak first tasted British abuse, arrest and imprisonment.In the course of the immigration of the “Shabtai Luzinski” immigrants, he intervened with his fellow Palmach members among the immigrants who came ashore and led them to Cyprus. In Cyprus he was identified as an Israeli and returned to Israel. Before the War of Independence began, he completed a commanding officer course, was sent to Tel Aviv and successfully participated in bringing the illegal immigrants to the shore. He participated in the unloading of weapons over the English at Tel Litvinsky (Tel Hashomer) and later immigrated to Jerusalem with one of the Palmach battalions. He was one of the first to occupy the Nashashibi House in Sheikh Jarrah and was involved in a retreat and insult because of a British ultimatum that forced our people to leave. He participated in the battles of Nebi Samuel, Katamon, and excelled in Ramat Rachel and in the fierce battles on the Zion Gate, and even prepared a plan to conquer the Generali building. In the Battle of Beit Mahsir he killed an officer of the Arab Legion and the English Tumigan who took the spoils he carried with him while he was still alive. Battalion for the “Yoram” operation – the third attack on Latrun Because of a mistake in navigating, the battalion climbed on the 14th deck, instead of the 13th position as planned, and the fighters attacked the outpost and succeeded in conquering part of it. The victims were left with no strength to complete the conquest of the outpost and an order was given to withdraw, and on that day, on the 2nd of Sivan, June 9, 1948, Yitzhak was killed by a grenade thrown by the enemy. On the25th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
