Shtal, Ze’ev (Willi)
Son of Feiga Chana and Yitzhak (Ignatz) was born in 1928 in Bucharest, After World War II he went to Belgium where he met the soldiers of the Jewish Brigade and acted as one of them. In 1946, Ze’ev boarded the ship “The Jewish Soldier”. He joined the “Wedwood” organization that settled in the Upper Galilee. Ze’ev worked in the field, clearing the land of the Keren Kayemeth and shepherding sheep, and soon adapted to the place and to the work. During the War of Independence, he was confined to his position as a recruiter on behalf of the agriculture to work in the day and to guard at night and underwent military training. In March 1948 Ze’ev got married. He participated in the defense of Mishmar Hayarden against Syrian attacks. In the big attack, on June 10, 1948, Ze’ev was seriously wounded and with the fall of the settlement he was taken as a prisoner to a Syrian hospital and after surgery he died there on the the 12th of Sivan, June 19, 1948. His son was born after his death and named after him. On the eve of Yom Kippur, October 2, 1949, he was brought to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
