Shrikinger, Tuvia (Tobias)


Son of Yitzchak (Isaac) and Rachel. He was born in Dzierzoniow, Poland, on the 4th of Nissan, April 13, 1948. In 1957, he immigrated to Israel with his family, after many hardships. He studied at the elementary School, in the Upper Galilee. After nine years, they moved to Jerusalem, where he spent two years studying at the Dafna farm. He was involved in collecting stamps and loved reading books. In May 1966, he was drafted into the IDF. At every opportunity, Tuvia visited his home in Jerusalem. On his last visit, he told his parents: “Soon I will be discharged from the army, and then go home forever.” On the 11th of Elul, September 3, 1968, the commando unit, on which he was traveling, hit a mine while embarking on an operation in the Golan Heights. He fell in the line of duty, and was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. His commander noted, in his letter of condolences to his parents, “he would stand for days and nights guarding the homeland, with great dedication….”
