Shpirer, Hagit


Daughter of Chaya and Isaiah. Born in Kibbutz Nitzanim on the 11th of Tevet, 5768 (11.1.1968), she grew up and was educated in her kibbutz, studied at the Nitzan Elementary School and at the art school at Shaar Hanegev High School. Hagit stood out for her passion for art and showed great creativity and imagination in her paintings, enamel and jewelry, and after completing her high school studies she volunteered for a year of service in the “Construction Group.” In this framework she worked in cleaning, painting and building. In this way she aspired to prove that Hebrew work was possible. In addition, she volunteered to train youth at the Morasha community center in November 1987. She was recruited to the IDF in November 1987. At the end of her basic training, she completed a course for operational symbols and served as a infantry sergeant in Rafah and the Golan Heights. Hagit fell during her duty on August 10, 1988, when a military vehicle overturned. She was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in her kibbutz, Nitzanim. Survived by parents and three brothers – Zvi, Yoram and Yuval. Her parents immortalized her memory in a book they published. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, her commanding officer wrote: “Hagit did her best, stood out in her cheerfulness and special sense of humor, which always inspired a good atmosphere, her looks, her high stature, her many loves and the love of animals.”
