Shovali, Yogev
Ben Yemima and Shalom. Born on 17 July 1962 in Rehovot, where he grew up and was educated. Yogev began his studies at the Ben Zvi Elementary School and continued to the Ephraim Katzir High School, where he studied in the biological track. Yogev is blessed with musical talent and as a young man he learned to play the accordion. In early November 1980 he was drafted into the IDF Artillery Corps. He served as an artillery instructor and served at the artillery base in the Jordan Valley. After completing his service Yogev began his studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and completed his BA in Economics and Accounting. Yogev worked for several years as an inspector at the Income Tax offices in Tel Aviv. Later, he served as an accounting teacher and planned to study in the securities course. In his spare time Yogev cultivated his hobbies. He cooked with pleasure and took out delicacies. Another pleasure he found in literature – he read a lot of original Israeli fiction as well as translated. Yogev’s special qualities: his sensitivity and intelligence. Without difficulty he would estimate and evaluate complex situations, and accordingly identify and choose the most appropriate manner of coping. It is no wonder that many found him back: Yogev knew how to make wise advice, and was always willing to help his friends. Another feature was his original sense of humor, in which he had a child’s delight and, surprisingly, the wisdom of an elderly man with a rich life experience. At the end of November 1997 Yogev went to reserve duty from which he did not return. On 27 November 1997, he fell at the age of thirty-five. Yogev was buried in the military section of the cemetery in Rehovot. Survived by a mother, two brothers, Rafi and Nir and two sisters, Arnia and Galit. In his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Amnon Lipkin-Shahak wrote: “Yogev, of blessed memory, served as an observer in the Central Command’s Intelligence Unit and was described by his commanders as a soldier who helped and contributed to the professionalism of those around him at all times. Yogev joined the company about four years ago, and since then served with his company in a number of missions as part of the reserve service … Yogev was a very smart and knowledgeable person. Widely in various fields. Many in his company found it a pleasure to consult with him and used to receive his advice. “
