Shovali, Saadia (Amikam)


Son of Leah and Shimon, was born on the 17th of amuz, July 13, 1930 in the Yemenite Vineyard neighborhood in Tel Aviv. His teachers noted him as a diligent and ambitious young man. Saadia was active in the Lehi underground for three years, then was captured by a British officer, but was released because of his young age. Later he continued to serve in the underground and enlisted members to it. Saadia lived a life of poverty and was persecuted by the authorities. On 29 May 1948, with the dissolution of the underground, he enlisted with his comrades in the 8th Brigade. On the 7th of Cheshvan (November 9, 1948), he participated in the attack on the Iraq-Suidan Police and was in the first half-track in the force that attacked the village of Iraq-Suidan. The enemy attacked them with lethal fire. Sa’adia was shot and killed. He was laid to rest at the Warburg military cemetery.
