Shoshani, Jacob

Jacob, son of Masuda and Moshe Shoshani, was born on December 16, 1931 in Jerusalem, and until 1947 he studied at the Mizrachi Talmud Torah and a few months after graduating he began working as a clerk in the Jewish National Fund. He was active in the Gadna, and with the outbreak of the War of Independence, was sent to work in fortifying the positions in the Jewish neighborhoods. He was humble and naive, and as he grew, these traits became more prominent, and he never boasted of his actions. On 11.6.1948, when the first truce began, he took up his duties. The family’s efforts to prevent it (at the time the bombardment resumed) did not help. He arrived safely to the point of concentration, but on the way to the fortifications, near the Menorah Club, the last shell hit him. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Sanhedria in Jerusalem. He was not yet 17 years old.
