Shosefi, Meir

Son of Avraham and Ahuva. He was born on August 31, 1950 in Afula. He studied at the elementary school in Ramat Yishai, and then spent one year at the Mikveh Israel agricultural high school. Afterward he studied for a year at the Ort vocational high school in Afula and in 1967 he studied for another year at the Air Force Technical School in Haifa. Finally, in 1968, he was accepted to a boarding school in the Kesher School where he graduated. His teacher wrote that: “As a gifted student he was referred to the agricultural school in Mikve Israel, but he apparently preferred the technique to agriculture.” He aspired to music and marveled at the guitar. Meir decided to set up a band of musicians – he said and did. Soon the members practiced and began to appear in public before a large crowd of fans. Meir liked to read in his spare time and in 1968 wrote a wide and interesting novel, but he left writing because of his interest in music. He liked to “produce” things with his own hands (such as a bedside lamp carved from a tree trunk) and did not like to leave things unfinished. Meir was drafted into the IDF in November 1968 and joined Golani, who served faithfully and fulfilled all his duties: “Why should not I do all I have to do for my beloved homeland?” By nature he was quiet and everyone who knew him loved him. On his last leave, his mother asked him what he would do when he finished his military service, but he did not have a profession for four years, and Meir replied: “Do not go back to the army, Worry! Every discharged soldier, the state helps him to study and work. “After completing his regular service he planned to continue his studies in music and devote his time to the development of his band. In Ramat Yishai, a public park was established in his name in Ramat Yishai, and in the first years after his fall, table tennis competitions were held in his memory and the winner was given a silver trophy in his honor.
