Shor, Avida


Their eldest son is Chaim and Shulamit. He was born on April 22, 1951 in Kibbutz Shoval, and attended elementary and high school in the kibbutz. Over the years he developed from a slender boy to a strong, muscular boy who played the accordion, played in the volleyball team, was at the center of social life in the Shabal youth group, was active at parties and often danced. For a while he taught at the Hashomer Hatzair branch in Dimona, and later headed the Hashomer Hatzair branch at the Mevo’ot Hanegev Institute. When he grew up, he joined the Shlachin branch and carried the burden of work with dedication and seriousness. Avida enlisted in the IDF in the middle of February 1971 and volunteered to serve in the Paratroopers Brigade, where he completed a platoon commander’s course, a parachuting course, a training course for infantry officers and an infantry officer course. On April 10, 1973, Lieutenant Avida was killed in a battle in Beirut that killed several terrorist leaders. He was brought to rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Shoval. In a letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “Avida played the role of deputy commander of the unit, and in this role he had a great influence on the spirit of the unit. A scholarship to his memory was donated by B’nai B’rith in Israel to a young youth counselor in order to finish his studies; A book in memory of “Avida Voice and Touch” was published by the Workers’ Library and Kibbutz Shoval; In April 1975, the families established a foundation named after Maayan, who fell with him, near son of-Gurion University in Be’er Sheva. The purpose of the fund is to distribute scholarships once a year to two students who graduated from combat units in the IDF.
