He went on to play soccer in the youth club of the country club in Tel Aviv, where he became captain until he joined the IDF. Raanan was also an active member of the “Kehilla” Scout troop, and in the framework of the Gadna he underwent a course for commanders. One of his dreams was to purchase a scooter, and at the age of 16 fulfilled his dream. He took out a driver’s license, and with the money he saved he bought himself a scooter. Raanan was posted to the paratroopers. After three months of service as a grade instructor, he was sent to the Officers’ Training Course and completed successfully, and Raanan returned to his battalion. In October 1973, when the Yom Kippur War broke out, Raanan was not yet assigned to a reserve unit, After his marriage, the family moved to Givatayim, where his son Lior was born, and later his daughter Hagar was born. They moved to Rishon Letzion, and Ra’anan began to conduct private investigations as an independent, and saw in his business a blessing. When Raanan finished his work at night in the hotel and continued to work as a private investigator, he and his brother Amir established a nursery of a house in Ramatayim. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out he was worried that they would not call him again, so he began to ask friends about what was going on, but on that same night he was drafted. On 27 Sivan, 18.6.1982, Raanan commanded his company, moving to catch a hill in the village of Yente. While advancing, the force encountered a Syrian ambush, and with the first burst of gunfire and grenades, he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. After his fall, Ra’anan was promoted to Major. He left behind a wife, son, daughter, parents and brother.
