Shochat, Gideon (“Geda”)


Son of Israel and Mania (his father – one of the founders of Hashomer). He was born on the 26th of Tevet 5613 (26.12.1912) in Haifa. He was drafted into the IDF in November 1949 and was one of the founders of the Israel Air Force and one of his first officers, and in 1962 he was loaned to the Foreign Service and recently served as Israel’s ambassador to Malawi. Senior IDF officers reached the rank of colonel. His demise on the 5th of Tevet 5727 (December 18, 1966) shocked all his acquaintances and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, when the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Yitzhak Rabin, Commander of the Air Force, Col. Mordechai And IDF officers accompanied his coffin, and with one of the IDF officers uttering eulogies on his grave, the IAF squad flagged its weapons and salutes of honor were shot into the gloomy atmosphere and the turbulent wind. He left a wife and two children.
