Shochat, Avraham (Avrahamle)

Son of Zahava and David, was born on the 24th of Teves, January 29, 1927, in Tel Aviv. As a child, he received lessons in music. He was educated in the “Bnei Akiva” youth movement for Torah, earthwork and defense. Avraham joined the Gadna, and at the age of 14, was detained in Rafah for five months. When he was released, he went to training in Ginegar, and was promoted to commander. On his return from Magnigar, he worked as a clerk in a workers’ fund in Tel Aviv. He was called to the Haganah in September 1947. He participated in the bombing of the Abu Laban building in Salameh and other villages around Tel Aviv and Ramat Hakovesh. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he enlisted in full mobilization, and served in the Alexandroni Brigade. Avraham devoted himself to his actions, with all his heart and soul, initiating, encouraging, activating, and the first to volunteer. His felt in his heart that he would be killed by a bullet, and he repeated this to his friend several times. On the 14th of Iyar, May 23, 1948, he fell during the conquest of Tantura. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya.
