Shneur, Yosef-Haim


Son of Hava and Moshe. He was born on the 6th of Tishrei 5713 (6.10.1913) in the city of Radzvilov in Volhynia, Russia, where he fell in the village of Rostoki in the village of Rostoki. He completed his first education at the Jewish State High School in the town of Puchaiev and continued his studies at the Polish State Gymnasium in Dubno, where he was an outstanding student and was active as chairman of the student council and editor of the newspaper. He was also active in the British Army, the infantry company of the Palestine Bapas, and was elected to the company’s committee. At the training camp in Tzrifin, he refused to accept the military payment and was not permitted to sign in Hebrew, and even on the front, which he later took part in, showed strong discipline and endurance that also affected his comrades. After the establishment of the Jewish Brigade and its participation on the Italian front, Joseph’s battalion operated in the Alfonsina area, which was considered especially dangerous. On the 17th of Nisan 5745 (March 31, 1945) his department left for a field tour, during which he was hit by a grenade and killed on the spot. He was buried in Ravenna, Italy.
