Shmukler, Eliezer (Leizer)


Eliezer (Leizer), son of Batya and Yosef Shmukler, was born on March 9, 1930 in Tel Aviv, and at the age of three he was orphaned from his father. He joined the Palmach and was a member of the Haganah since 1945. In “Wingate Night”, Eliezer participated in the immigration of illegal immigrants and in acts of sabotage against the British. At the beginning of the War of Independence he was sent to Negba, and then he moved to Sharona for a sports instructors course. When he returned he was sent to the Jerusalem battles. Eliezer participated in Operation Nachshon as a soldier in one of the Harel Brigade battalions. He continued to fight in this area, and during Operation Maccabi, to break into Jerusalem, he fell in battle at the Shaar Hagai outposts on the 2nd of Iyar, May 11, 1948 and was brought to rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak military cemetery.
