Shmuelowitz, Yitzhak (Itzik, Shmueli, Yitzhak’le)

Yitzhak, son of Sarah and Dov Shmuelowitz, was born in 1929 in Haifa. He was a member of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement and when he was 14, he joined a youth company in Dalia, where he worked mainly in Falah and learned to drive a tractor. In 1946, he joined the Palmach and in the War of Independence, he joined the Yiftach Brigade and moved to the Galilee, where he served as a driver in the battles of Malkia, Zar’in and Yechiam. He was always cheerful and sociable, and had a sense of responsibility. Yitzhak was killed in the bombing of Egyptian planes on Rishon Letzion on 25 Iyar, May 3, 1948 while sitting at the wheel of the jeep. He was buried in Rishon Letzion. On 22.6.1950, he was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
