After his enlistment in November 1965, he underwent an officer’s course, and attained the rank of lieutenant. He was transferred to Rafah, where he was appointed deputy governor. From the beginning, his superiors thought that the burden of the job was too heavy for him, but soon Freddy proved otherwise, for he filled his responsibilities with diligence, intelligence, with all his heart. On the 19th of Tevet, January 9, 1969, his vehicle hit a mine, and he died. It was about two weeks before his marriage. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery, in Rechovot.
