Shmueli, Freddy
Son of Moshe and Penina. He was born on the 26th of Iyar, May 16, 1947 in the city of Baku, Romania. His parents came to Israel with him in 1950. He began studying in the Smilansky elementary school in Rechovot. He enjoyed playing soccer, and participated in this game, in the Rechovot youth group. He later studied at the Kfar Silver High School near Ashkelon. During his high school years, he belonged to the Maccabi youth organization, as a trainee. He took part in the Gadna operations, and in March 1965, he underwent a course for commanders. After his enlistment in November 1965, he underwent an officer’s course, and attained the rank of lieutenant. He was transferred to Rafah, where he was appointed deputy governor. From the beginning, his superiors thought that the burden of the job was too heavy for him, but soon Freddy proved otherwise, for he filled his responsibilities with diligence, intelligence, with all his heart. On the 19th of Tevet, January 9, 1969, his vehicle hit a mine, and he died. It was about two weeks before his marriage. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery, in Rechovot.
