Shmuel, Avraham

Avraham (Avram, Shmulik), son of Rachel and Shmuel Shmuel, was born on August 5, 1951. He studied at the Chaim Weizmann Elementary School and then continued his studies at the Zion High School in Jaffa. Abraham was a good disciplined student, diligent and meticulous and worked hard on his studies and the preparation of lessons. His teachers and friends loved him very much for his honesty, his decency, and his sincerity. He hated injustice, bias and hypocrisy, and distance from cunning and sanctity. He had always pursued justice without compromise, and he could convince those who argued with him quietly, without raising his voice. In all his ways he was gentle, courteous and gracious, greats every friend and respects people. Abraham had many hobbies. He was a keen sports fan for soccer and basketball. He liked to ride a bicycle, build kites, and he had an endless amount of patience, cutting and gluing, building airplanes. He also found an outlet in music. He liked to listen to music-the Beatles songs, Tom Jones’s and Bob Dylan’s, and his guitar. During the holidays, he traveled extensively throughout the country and photographed landscapes and animals. In his youth he had plans to study as a professional photographer. He loved animals very much and raised a dog. He dedicated his spare time to his stamp albums, in which he collected stamps from many countries of the world, including valuable stamps.
Avraham was drafted into the IDF in early 1969. At first he volunteered to serve in the paratroopers or air force, but after being tested and found fault with his vision, he volunteered for the Armored Corps. After basic training, he was trained in the Patton tank course. He spent most of his regular service in Sinai and participated in the War of Attrition. For this, he was awarded the “Operational Service Award”. In the certificate given to him when he was discharged from military service, he wrote: “His behavior is very good, he is a good soldier and disciplined and has a high professional ability.” After his release, he studied at Tel Aviv University, in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Studies. In the Yom Kippur War, Avraham took part in the braking battles against the Egyptians on the Sinai front. On the 9th of Tishrei 5734 (October 9, 1973) Avraham fell in battle at the “Machshar” junction. A missile hit his tank and he was killed on the spot. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Holon, leaving behind his parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
