Shlomi (Deiches), Eliyahu


Born in August 1918 in Vilna, Lithuania, he joined the local Betar kehilla and was active in it for about five years. In 1938 he immigrated to Eretz Israel illegally and joined the Betar company in Zichron Ya’akov, where he served as secretary of the National Workers’ Union and was authorized by the Tel Hai branch. He was devoted to the Hebrew language and thought to instill language among local people in general and his Betar members in particular. In April 1940 he moved to the Betar company in Petach Tikva where he held various positions and began to adopt the ideology of the Irgun and joined its ranks. On 14 Av, August 18, 1940, Eliyahu was killed in a clash between members of the Haganah and Betar members in Herzliya in the context of an arms dispute, and he was brought to eternal rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery.
