Shitovich, Dov (Dubik, Dubcha)
Was born on May 18, 1929 in Haifa, and after graduating from elementary school in Kiryat Haim he was sent to study frameworks, but because he loved freedom and spaces, he did not accept a profession that fascinated him in one place. 1945, where he grew up and worked with great satisfaction and joy in all branches of the agriculture, especially in fodder, and after about a year joined the Palmach with his training members, members of the United Movement. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he participated as a machine gunner in most of the operations in the Upper Galilee: in the battles of Safed and Ein Zeitim, accompanied by convoys between Kibbutz Dan and Tiberias, and more. In his many letters from that period, he expressed his homesickness and concern for the family and his pride in the bravery of our army. Dov died on the 28th of Adar 5708 (1948) in the defense of flames of Bashan. He left with his unit to help the agriculture and ran from place to place with his machine gun to secure the weak places. As he changed the position of the machine gun, a bullet hit his stomach. He managed to extend his regards to his family and took his soul out. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Lehavot Habashan. In one of his last letters, he described with admiration the readiness of the fighting comrades to help each other even in the most difficult battles: “… there was a difficult battle there, and then I saw how good it was to help and save …”
