Shireizli, Avraham (Ahisamach)

Avraham, son of Hannah and Shlomo-Israel Shireizli, was born on March 22, 1921 in Jerusalem. He worked in the publishing house of his late father (a well-known publisher and translator of Eliezer son of Yehuda’s publications). In 1942, he volunteered for the British Army Engineers Corps, served for more than two years in the Western Desert and North Africa, and later in Italy, where he was in charge of the electricity system at the Royal Palace in Naples. At the beginning of 1948, during the War of Independence, he worked as a responsible electrician at the Hebrew University and was automatically recruited to defend the place since he knew how to use a machine gun. On 9 Iyar, 18.5.1948, Avraham was killed in the battles of the Hadassah Hospital. He was buried on Mount Scopus. On the 18th of Shevat 5711 (18.1.1951) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
