Shirazi, Baruch
Son of Jacob and Miriam. He was born on August 8, 1947 in Basra, Iraq, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1950. Baruch completed his studies at the Geula Elementary School and studied for a year at the Shevach High School in Tel Aviv. Baruch joined the Betar youth soccer team in Tel Aviv and was one of the most prominent players in the team. Baruch enlisted in the IDF in August 1966 and volunteered for an infantry unit, after which he underwent a platoon commander course and then a machine-gun course, and was an excellent soldier and commander who never complained about difficulties in carrying out a mission. One of whom noted: “Baruch was not just a commander. First and foremost he was a soldier’s friend. Anyone who had a problem was sure that Baruch would give her a sympathetic ear. Laughter and cheerfulness were always on his face, even though he fulfilled his duties very seriously. “At the end of April 1969, Sergeant Baruch was wounded in a clash with terrorists in the Beit She’an area, when his half-track was hit by a bazooka bomb. Despite his severe wounds Baruch helped to bandage the other wounded, and only afterwards did he lose consciousness. On May 4, 1969, he died of his wounds. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. In a letter of condolence sent to the bereaved family, the Minister of Defense wrote: “Baruch was an excellent soldier and an excellent commander. He was a favorite of his commanders and subordinates. “His direct commander, who was highly esteemed, wrote:” Baruch always served in key positions, always helped his subordinates, encouraged them, and enlightened their path. “We remember his calm, And he behaved calmly to his subordinates, who liked to hang on to his shadow and enjoy his words and words. “His family published a memorial booklet in his memory.
