Shimshoni, Avinoam


Son of Menachem and Carmela. Born on December 13, 1947 in Tel Aviv, his parents moved to Givat Shmuel, where Avinoam completed elementary school, joined Hashomer Hatzair in his youth and later moved to the agricultural school ” Mikveh Israel, “and his main occupations were fruit trees and citrus, and his ambition was to study agriculture and continue his life on the kibbutz, and he joined the members of the core group at Kibbutz Nirim, where Avinoam loved nature and was especially interested in birdwatching and life. He traveled a lot in Israel, both in the framework of the youth and on his own, and he recognized every path he took in. He was drafted into the IDF in September 1965 together with his friends – And volunteered for the Nahal Brigade After completing the basic training course, it was decided to send him to the course of the squadron and after completing the course he joined the paratroop brigade, where he excelled, and during the Six Day War he participated in battles and also fought against saboteurs. And his commanders saw him as an excellent professional in his position, and his apprentices loved him very much because he knew how to get them to carry out his orders not by force, but by his personal influence. This operation is known as Operation Karameh (a town east of the Jordan, from which the enemy saboteurs were deployed to Israeli territory). This was on the 21st of Adar 5728 (March 21, 1968). He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. His friends at Kibbutz Nirim founded a theoretical library in his honor. On the first anniversary of his death, Kibbutz Nirim published a booklet in his memory. In Volume 4 of “Goily Ash”, the school bag of the sons of the fallen soldiers in Israel, was brought from his estate.
