Shimon, Paltiel
Son of Saadia and Mazal. He was born in Tzrifin on July 11, 1951. His family lived in Rishon Letzion, where he studied at the BILU school in the Ezra and Bazron neighborhood and continued his studies at the elementary school in the Nahalat Yehuda neighborhood. He graduated from high school in son of Shemen Youth Village, in a pedagogical track. Paltiel was a lively boy and had many friends with whom he used to go out and have fun, stroll and have fun. During his studies he was a member of the Gadna and took an active part in organizing and performing various tasks, such as marches from camps etc. Paltiel was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1969 and volunteered for the paratroopers. He went through all the training courses in the IAF: basic training, a rifle course, a parachuting course and a infantry commander course. And thanks to his impeccable service and his excellence in all his actions, he rose rapidly in the ranks. In mid-November 1972, Sergeant Paltiel was released from regular service and returned to his city, Rishon Letzion. During his service in the reserves, during the Yom Kippur War and the War of Attrition, Paltiel took part in all his unit’s operations in all sectors and on all borders. At the end of December 1974, Paltiel was called to active reserve duty. On the 20th of Tevet 5731 (January 3, 1975) Paltiel fell in battle and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Rishon LeZion, leaving behind his parents, three brothers and a sister, who was promoted to the rank of sergeant. The late Sergeant Paltiel Shimon was killed in a terrorist attack on an IDF patrol on the northern border of the Har Dov area, and as I called him, he was the commander of the half-track, when he was attacked from a very short distance. During his service in the battalion, Paltiel was highly respected by both soldiers and commanders.
