Shimon, Eliyahu


Ben Rachel and Yitzhak was born in Istanbul, Turkey on August 18, 1942. Eliahu was drafted into the IDF in May 1961. He was stationed in the Infantry Corps and took a course for commanders in Golani. With the exception of a brief period in which he set out for civilian life, Eliyahu served in the IDF until his last day and reached the rank of major sergeant. In 1965 Elijah married Jacqueline and they had a son and a daughter. During his service Eliahu took many courses, such as anti-aircraft anti-aircraft, anti-unit, and more. He participated in the Six-Day War and in the Yom Kippur War. Eliahu was a good and disciplined soldier, very responsible, with good control, good organizational ability and pressure under difficult conditions. He was a little tough, but dedicated, taking care of his subordinates and giving a personal example. His last position was in the area of ​Yamit in the Eitam camp, where he fell during his service on the first day of Elul 5739 (August 24, 1979) and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Ashdod. He was 37 years old when he fell. Eliyahu left behind a wife, son and daughter, mother, brothers and sisters. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “The IDF was Eliyahu’s second home, where he served with love, devotion and efficiency day and night, investing his energies and energy in his work. He was very active in building the base, where he served and remembered many of us and many officers and commanders in the IAF who knew him, his kindness and his strong desire to help others. “The family donated a Torah scroll and lamp to the synagogue in Ashdod.
