Shiloni, Tzalach (Shlomo)
Tzalach, son of Yaffa and Shmuel Shiloni, was born in January 1930 in the city of Chul in Kurzia, Turkey, the descendant of an old rabbinical family. As a child, the family moved to Iraq and from there immigrated to Israel in 1936 and settled in Jerusalem. Here Shlomo studied in the “Talmud Torah” of the Chacham Elyon Avidinu. When he completed his studies at the Talmud Torah, he went to work to help his parents. He belonged to the local branch of Hanoar Haoved. Shlomo worked in various works outside of Jerusalem, at Tel Yosef, Ein Harod, and others. He returned to Jerusalem, studied customs and worked as a truck driver. During the War of Independence he volunteered immediately, as a member of the Haganah, to defend the Jewish Yishuv and was sent with his car to bring supplies to Jerusalem from other cities in the country. Tzalach was a courageous fellow who volunteered enthusiastically for every difficult and dangerous job. On the 15th of Adar I 5708 (February 25, 1948) he traveled in a convoy loaded with goods from Tel Aviv to besieged Jerusalem. On her way the convoy was attacked. Tzalach was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Sanhedria in Jerusalem.
