Shilon, Paltiel


Ben Shoshana and Zvi. He was born on September 1, 1972 in Montreal, Canada, a young brother to Aviva. Paltiel began his studies in Canada and immigrated to Israel with his family at the age of five. The family settled in Givat Ze’ev, where Paltiel finished elementary school. He studied high school at the Denmark School in Jerusalem, and after completing his tenth grade he worked for a living until his enlistment. During this period he also traveled on a trip and visited relatives in Canada. Paltiel joined the IDF in November 1990 and after completing basic training served in the Civil Administration in Beit Sahour, where he wanted to attend an officer’s course and his unit first sent him to the military school in Tzrifin. Paltiel served in the printing press of the Civil Administration and as a maintenance officer in the unit, and his colleagues said that Pelti was generally friendly and happy. “He loved the army very much. “The army gave him tenure and people who loved him, and many loved him.” His commanders noted that he performed his duties well, showed motivation and responsibility, and was an initiative and accepted among his friends. He fell during his service, a week before the date of the liberation, on the 19th of Cheshvan 5754 (22.10.1993). He was twenty-one years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents and sister. The commander of the unit, Brigadier General Gadi Zohar, wrote to the family: “Paltiel was a soldier who carried out all the tasks that were entrusted to him with responsibility, devotion and seriousness, and with a high work ethic, and he was a friendly and beloved soldier for his commanders and all the soldiers in the unit. And the soldiers of the unit express my sorrow and my participation in your mourning. “
