Shikman, Dan


Son of Bela and David. Was born on January 1, 1933, in Romania, during the Second World War, when his family was taken to a concentration camp where his sister perished. He settled in Tel Aviv with his parents and settled in Tel Aviv in December 1950. He joined the IDF in December 1950, underwent basic training and was sent to a cook course. After he was discharged from regular service, he worked at odd jobs. In 1956, he joined the Merchant Navy, where he served until 1959. He returned to Israel, settled in Eilat and worked as a cook. Dan served in the IDF during the Six Day War and in the Yom Kippur War, and in January 1975 he volunteered to serve in the regular army as a cook with the rank of Major General. Dan was stationed in the IAF and served in various bases. In May 1975, he was promoted to the rank of major sergeant, and in September 1981, Dan became ill for the first time and was hospitalized for a long period of time and was diagnosed with a malignant disease that led to his death on the 23rd of Nissan 5743 (April 6, 1983).
