Shikma, Yaniv
Son of Ofra and Chaim, was born on September 15, 1961 in Kibbutz Ein Dor near Mount Tabor. Yaniv served in the infantry. He had undergone basic training, and was happy when he was sent to his unit’s reconnaissance unit. The unit’s soldiers underwent exhaustive training, including running training. On the 16th of Adar I 5741 (19 February 1981), his unit set out for a 10 km run in the area of the Wingate Institute on the Haifa-Tel Aviv road, and Yaniv complained of chest pains. Yaniv continued to run until he collapsed and died of cardiac arrest at the age of 19. He was laid to rest in the military section of his kibbutz in Ein Dor, where Yaniv left behind his parents, brother and sister and wrote to him in a letter of condolence to his family.
