Son of Janet and Jonah. He was born on March 12, 1921, in Czernowitz, Romania, and he immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1939. During World War II he was one of the first to enlist in the British army and was assigned to the 462. He served in Egypt and Beirut and at the end of April 1943 he boarded the ship “Aryanpura” from Egypt in the direction of Malta to participate in the Allied invasion of Europe. On 27 Nisan, May 1, 1943a German reconnaissance plane bombed the convoy as it sailed off the Benghazi coast, and Aryeh’s ship was hit directly and drowned immediately. The members of Company 462 were killed in the disaster, among them Aryeh. In the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, a monument was erected in the shape of a ship and next to it a small water pool, at the bottom of which are engraved the names of all the missing members of the company.
