Shevach, Tzadok
Son of Roma and Shimon, was born in 1927 in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. He received his early education in a “cheder,” but at the age of ten he had to stop his studies and began working in weaving. As a young man, he married his father and then decided to immigrate to Israel at any price. He disguised himself as an Arab and arrived after many hardships to Aden, and from there, with the help of his brother, immigrated to Palestine in 1945. Upon his arrival in Israel he went to the settlement of Herzliya and began to work in agricultural work. After this work was completed, he moved to Holon and began working in his profession – weaving. Zadok was modest, self-possessed and fond of all his knowledge. When he joined the ranks of the Haganah he devoted himself to his duties with dedication and faith. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he was one of the first volunteers to serve in the “Kiryati” Brigade. Zadok courageously participated in the defense of Holon and Daughter of-Yam, as well as in Operation Chametz for the encirclement of Jaffa. He was later joined by defenders of the Moledet neighborhood and was among the conquerors of the village of the rioters. On Wednesday, June 11, 1948, he was among the defenders of the Sarafand camp, and during an attack by the enemy on the camp, he was hit by a cluster of bullets and fell and was brought to rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
