Shevach, Chanan


Son of Deborah and Leibel, was born in 1919 in the city of Slovin, Poland. At the outbreak of the Second World War, when the Germans occupied Poland, he fled to Russia and returned to Poland upon its liberation from the occupation. Upon his return, he joined the “Dror” kibbutz in Wroclaw and traveled on the wandering route of Shochrei Zion – from Poland to Austria and Germany, and from there to Italy. In Italy he enlisted in the IDF as part of the Gahal (Overseas Recruitment) and arrived in Israel at the beginning of July 1948. Hanan was sent to Menara and was one of the eight new immigrants who stayed for a short period of time working and defending the northern community. They were killed in an explosion that took place on August 27, 1948. He was buried in the Menara. On the 30th of Av 5710 (30.7.1950) he was transferred to eternal rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
