Shetreet, Edna


Daughter of Masuda and Moshe, was born on July 7, 1961 in Haifa. Edna was a seventh child in a traditional multi-children family. From childhood she stood out in her meticulous attitude to order, cleanliness, and decor. Edna loved to live in an atmosphere of pleasantness and good taste. Edna received her education at Shaarei Torah Elementary School in Haifa. She excelled in her studies, and went on to junior high in the “youth village” in Kfar Hasidim. From there Edna moved to Yemin Ort School, in fashion and arts. After completing eleven grades, she moved to the “Aliya” school in Kfar Menahem and successfully completed her high school studies, and was active in the Youth Wing, a volunteer unit in the community education of the Ministry of Education and Culture. In addition, Edna received a certificate from the Ministry of Education and Culture, noting her participation in the competition, and as a student she was very diligent, sociable, loved in class and involved in the social life around her. Surrounded by a circle of friends attracted to her, because of the vitality that had flowed from her, Edna was full of joy S with sensitivity to others, especially her parents. With each job and study at the school, she has found time to help her mother managing her household. When the time came for induction into the army, have been tenderness at the request of her parents and declared itself a religious, to be released from service. But her conscience bothered her and she canceled her signature, to her parents’ dismay. When the time for her recruitment was delayed, she pleaded with her to hasten her recruitment, away from the pressure of her parents, who opposed her enlistment. In September 1979, Edna enlisted and volunteered to serve in the Paratroopers Brigade. At first she served as a registration clerk, but this role did not match her active character. She completed a parachuting course and was promoted to the rank of corporal in May 1980. Edna was assigned to the position of Operations Officer, and in March 1981 she was promoted to the rank of Operations Commissar, and her art skills were expressed in painting, writing and thought. The character wrote: “I want to be a tree, because a tree can claim that the wind and only the wind broke it.” One of its members wrote about her after she was killed: “There was a lot of noise around her, not even a moment of boredom. She had an inexhaustible energy. The pen was scribbling, paintings came out of her hands during a routine phone call. “One of her friends wrote about her:” She loved life, she loved to sing, to dance. There was confidence in her – with insecurity. She was always in an amusing mood, sweeping everything with her laughter. “She loved to draw galloping horses, and she saw the joy of life, beauty and beauty: Shortly before she was about to be released from the army, Edna planned to continue her studies in art. She was accepted as a student at the Midrasha for graphic arts and painting in Tel Aviv. On the 28th of Sivan 5761 (28.6.1981), near Moshav Yarkona, a road accident occurred on the Ramatayim-Petach Tikva road. And Edna perished in it. She was 20 years old when she died. She was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. Edna left behind her parents, six brothers and three sisters. In her memory appeared a booklet in which her family, friends and friends told her about her special character. The booklet contains some of her collection of paintings and works in painting, song and thought.
