Sherry, Pinchas

Son of Yosef and Mazal. Born in Bombay, India, on the 2nd of Nissan, March 23, 1947. After completing his studies at the Sasson Primary School in India, the family immigrated to Israel, in 1961. He studied at the youth village in Be’er Yaakov, and completed his studies as a metal worker. He took the “Phenicia” course in Haifa for six months, and worked as an operator at Phenicia, in Yeruham. He was loved by all the workers, because he treated everyone well. In November, 1967 he was drafted into the IDF, and served in the “popping” first division “Golani”. On the 19th of Shevat, February 7, 1969, he fell on a landmine planted on a dirt road, near Rafid, in the southern Golan Heights. Pinchas was laid to rest in the cemetery in Yeruham. The family commemorated their son by buying a Torah scroll. His name was also commemorated by naming his name on the cricket ground, which the secretary of the workers’ council in Yeruham dealt with in his alignment and defiance.
