Sherf, Jacob


Yaakov, son of Aliza and Meir, was born on August 18, 1950, in Haifa, where he settled in Jerusalem, Yaakov was drafted into the IDF in late October 1969, and as a member of the nucleus he was posted to the parachuted Nahal Brigade, where he spent three months at Kibbutz Kfar Hanassi and was later assigned to a parachute unit. At the end of October 1972, when he completed his mandatory service, he was assigned to reserve duty in a field unit, and he was preparing to continue his studies, but he did not receive a compulsory army service. Due to financial difficulties, he was forced to go to work first, and chose to work as a technician at the Geological Institute in Jerusalem. On October 12, 1973, Yaakov was hit and fell in an artillery shelling of our forces, who fought in the Golan Heights. He was brought to eternal rest in the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Yaakov was a dedicated and loyal soldier, in routine times and in battle. The family donated a Torah scroll to a synagogue in Jerusalem.
