Shem-Tov, Shimon (Shemi)
Son of Miriam and Moshe, was born on February 14, 1965 in Tel Hanan near Haifa. My name was a member of a large family of children who immigrated from Morocco. He studied at the elementary school and in the comprehensive high school in Tel Hanan, and completed eleven years of study. In February 1982, he joined the IDF and was sent to a course for drivers and was assigned to serve as a driver at his division headquarters. On the 11 th of Cheshvan 5747 (11.11.1984), my name returned from a Shabbat holiday with his commander to his unit in the north of the country. He drove his commander’s military car, with two more soldiers in the commander’s car. When he drove along the Gadot-Mahanayim road, a truck that had slipped on the road came toward him and crashed into it. Two soldiers were killed in the clash, and the commander and another soldier were wounded. Shimon was killed. He was 20 years old when he died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. My mother left behind his parents, six sisters and four brothers
