Shem-Tov, Eliezer (Lasko)

Son of Paulina and Avraham, was born on October 5, 1928, in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. After making aliya, he served as a machine gunner and took part in all the combat operations of his company in the great battle of Latrun on May 24, 1948, during the conquest of Beit Susin and Beit Jiz. In all these battlesEliezer excelled in his courage. On May 31, 1948, during Operation Ben-Nun, the second attack on the Legion compound, he took a stand with his friend to cover up the retreat from their division. The mission succeeded, but the two were missing. When the deputy platoon commander and the company commander looked for the brave machine-gunners, they found neither of them. For a long time they assumed that they had been captured by the Arab Legion. On the 25th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
