Shelly, Eyal (Eyali)

Ben Dennis and Ezer. He was born on the 17th of Tevet 5731 (14.1.1971) in Lod. The youngest son in a family of four. In his infancy he contracted asthma and was hospitalized for a long time waiting for a drug from the United States that saved his life. Even as a child, he was outstanding for his talent in art, especially in painting and music. Eyal studied at the Bialik Elementary School in Lod. He was one of the outstanding students and his achievements have skyrocketed in all fields. After completing his elementary studies, he was recommended as a candidate for a boarding school for gifted children, but since he did not want to leave the house, he gave up the idea and continued his studies at the Amal junior high school in Ramle, and in electronics at the Ort High School in Lod. Eyal stood out among his friends and became a social leader. He was an active activist in the Scouts movement in the Eyal tribe in Lod. He has always contributed to his actions, has always maintained a high morale, supported and encouraged his friends and loved to help others in times of trouble. In his spare time, he listened to music in all its different forms and entertained. He always thought “how to do fast,” as if he wanted to experience everything. As if he had predicted that he would not last long. Eyal amazed his immediate surroundings with his business sense, and believed that “it was not the certificate itself” that would give him the ticket to success in life. Eyal was the love of the family. There was a tremendous love between them. He maintained close relations with his family, knew how to communicate with everyone and was loved by everyone. At the beginning of May 1989, Eyal was recruited to serve in the Israel Defense Force, where he was assigned to a maintenance and placement course at the Central School of Communications and Electronics. He performed his military duties in the best possible way. Most of his love lay in his car, where he died. “In their lives and in their deaths, they did not part.” On the 17th of Tammuz 5771 (1.7.1991) Eyal fell in the line of duty in a road accident that occurred near Alon Junction in Samaria, when he drove from his home to the new base where he was stationed. Eyal was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Lod. Survived by his parents, two brothers – Yoram and Avi, and sister Malka. From a poem written by his friend Itzik: “Now perhaps you are in the sky / on the way to the base / you were full of love, you were full of truth / you were full of soul – now you are dead! … “
