Sheffer, Oren


Son of Sarah and Nahum, was born on April 2, 1966 in Kibbutz Beit Hashita in the Jezreel Valley. As a child, Oren moved to the fields in Sinai. Where he graduated from elementary and junior high school. Oren then returned to Beit Hashita for one year and continued his studies there. He returned to the fields and completed his high school studies at the Eshel Hanasi school. With the evacuation of Sinai, Oren moved with his family to Moshav Ein Habesor, in the Negev. In July 1984, he enlisted in the IDF and served in the Infantry Corps, where he trained in an armored personnel carrier, and after completing his training, he and his unit moved to Lebanon. On the day he arrived at the outpost, on February 12, 1985, he encountered a mine-shoe that exploded and killed him. Oren was 19 years old when he fell. He was laid to rest on the kibbutz where he was born, in Beit Hashita. Oren left behind his parents, brother and sister. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Oren was killed in the disaster that occurred on the day his company came to Lebanon, and I learned from his commanders about his special personality, his determined character as a soldier, his rigidity and his disapproval of things he thought were marginal. He was an excellent example of his ability to overcome difficult situations “
