Shefer (Shiffer), Dov (Burka)


Son of Yehoshua. He was born in 1921 in Kovno, Lithuania, his family was wealthy, his father was a pharmacist and his mother was a dentist, and he studied at a Hebrew gymnasium in the city and was a talented student, especially in the study of the Hebrew language. At the age of 15 he informed his parents that he was leaving his studies and joining the hachshara. In 1937 he made aliyah. On 2 Cheshvan, October 26, 1938, when he was on guard duty he was shot and killed. He was laid to rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery. His coffin was wrapped in the flag of Hashomer Hatzair, and his funeral was attended by his comrades from the youth movement, Notrim, the students of Mikve Israel, the teachers and the school’s workers, He left his parents in Kovno. The newspaper Davar published a list of his history and his memory was also immortalized in the memorial booklet of the “Ransom of the Yishuv” and in the Yizkor book of the Jabotinsky Institute.
