Shefer, Hanoch
Son of Yochanan and Bilha. He was born on July 17, 1956, in Kibbutz Ein Tzurim, whose settlers were the remnants of the fighters in Gush Etzion who fell on the eve of the establishment of the state. From childhood he absorbed the spirit of faith, stubbornness, connection to the past and willingness to act without limits and devotion to the people and the homeland. Hanoch finished elementary school at the Shapira Center and continued his high school studies at the Yavneh group. Hanoch was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early November 1974 and was deployed to the Armored Corps. All the tasks assigned to him were successful. At the same time, he could not rest. Hanoch felt that he could contribute and give more strength than he needed in the Armored Corps, and therefore he applied to volunteer for the naval commando. His request was received because of his high personal data and Hanoch was attached to a famous naval commando unit. He passed the training course of the “men of silence”, one of the most difficult and hard-working in the IDF, and on Hanoch’s death on March 22, 1977, Hanoch fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the civilian cemetery in Gush Etzion. Survived by his parents and two brothers. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Hanoch was one of the best among his friends and stood out in his aspiration to succeed and to contribute to the tasks he and his friends were forced to do. For the unit: love of the land, the desire to contribute above and beyond what is needed, helping others and being prepared to face difficulties require that Hanukh exhaust all that is in it … Only a son who comes from a family saturated with love of the country and a belief in the ability and duty of every person for the state can withstand the difficulties and complicated tasks All that is in it. “
