Shechtman, Avi


Son of Mordechai and Esther. Born on 8.11.1956 in Petach Tikvah, to parents born in Israel, grandson of veterans of the Em Hamoshavot, he completed his studies at the PICA elementary school in Petah Tikva and the Amal Technicians School in the electronics track. He was a good and diligent student, and as a young man he was active in the “Scouts” in the city, Avi was a handsome boy, pleasant and pleasant, yet shy, sensitive and vulnerable, always willing to help others and loved by all the people around him. In October 1974, and was assigned to the Intelligence Corps. He passed an intelligence technician course and a gas defense course and attained the rank of First Sergeant. He did his regular service in Sinai and then served in the career army for a year and a half. My father fell during his service on the 17th of Shvat 5739 (18.2.1979). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Petah Tikva. He was twenty-two years old when he fell. Survived by his parents and sister. In a letter of condolence to his family, his commander wrote: “My father excelled as a loyal friend, a good professional, a hardworking soldier, devoted and responsible.
