Shaw, Joseph

Son of Esther and Asher. He was born in Czechoslovakia on May 14, 1915. In his youth he studied at the city’s high school in his home in Czechoslovakia. He was active in the Betar Zionist youth movement and also underwent agricultural training in preparation for his immigration to Eretz Israel. Then he joined the Czech army, where he reached the rank of sergeant, and during the period of his service Hitler’s armies invaded Czechoslovakia. In 1940, he immigrated to Eretz Israel in the illegal immigration organized by Betar, and immediately joined the British army, where he served in various places. Shortly before his release from the army, Yosef was given a vacation to prepare for his civilian life, and during the vacation he was injured in a car accident. He died of his wounds the following day, 7 Tamuz, 3 July 1946. He was 30 when he died. Joseph was brought to rest in the old cemetery in Netanya. He left a brother and three sisters in Palestine. His parents perished in the Auschwitz death camp.
