Shavey, Jacob

Son of Tzalach and Rina. He was born on September 4, 1947 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. In 1951 the family immigrated to Israel. Yaakov graduated from the Achva School in Ramle and later attended the Ramle-Lydda High School in the real-world track. In February 1967 he was drafted into the IDF, volunteered for the paratroopers and during the Six-Day War he participated with a force that was assigned a special and difficult task, even though the force was made up of young soldiers without combat experience. (12.12.1967), during an assault on an enemy squadron near Beit Nehemiah – and he is still in compulsory service. In the short time of his service he discovered his devotion and loyalty, his responsibility and his courage – and he liked him for all his friends and commanders. He was laid to rest at the Ramle cemetery.
