Sharoni, Gad (“Gadi”)
Son of Yehuda and Miriam. He was born on 29.6.1948 in Kibbutz Amir. Gad was a member of the “Nitzanim” group who attended elementary school (grades 1-6) at Kibbutz Shoval, grades 7-10 in Kibbutz Negba and 11th and 12th grades in Kibbutz Shoval. Gad was educated at the “Mevo’ot HaNegev” school. He completed his studies at the vocational school in Kiryat Gat, and when he completed his studies in frameworks. After graduating, he worked in agriculture, in the field of agriculture and his work was appreciated. His sports lover belonged to Hapoel and participated in a volleyball and basketball team in Beit Kama. He was drafted into the IDF in November 1966, and on duty he went to participate in the retaliatory action against the Jordanian sabotage bases, known as Operation Karameh (a town east of the Jordan, from which the enemy saboteurs were deployed to Israeli territory) The commander of his unit, in a letter of condolences to his parents, wrote about Gad the good and devoted soldier, the efficient and obedient, with the strong willpower, which despite the fact that he was in the cemetery in Beit Kama. If he could choose the easy way and leave his combat unit because of his leg ache in the parachuting course, he did not do so and continued with his friends to the unit, despite all the difficulties he faced. And in national consciousness, “the commander continued,” he demanded a lot from himself and could fulfill what he demanded. He was fond of his friends and commanders, brave and well-executed. “Every year, a memorial tournament is held in the kibbutz’s memory, and his name is mentioned among the other comrades who fell in the Krama operation in Uri’s book Milstein “The Assaulters First”.
