Sharabi, Yair
Son of Bracha and Shalom, he was born on 28.5.1963 in Yerushalayim. Yair was a member of a traditional family with many children and he received his education for the love of the people and the country. Yair studied at the Moriah School, After completing a medical examination, Yair was released from compulsory military service in the IDF, but he did not resign at the time of his release and volunteered to serve as a mechanic in the IDF, Armaments Division. His commanders were careful not to burden him with excessive effort, and yet he fulfilled his duties in the unit as one of the soldiers. On 18 Tamuz, July 9, 1982, Yair was driving a vehicle on the Anatot-Ma’aleh Adumim road. On the way he veered off the road, turned over and was killed in an accident. He was 19 years old. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Yair left behind his parents, five sisters and three brothers. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Your son, Yair, will serve as an example for us as a soldier who volunteered for the IDF and did everything he could with dedication, responsibility and good will. Since coming to the unit, he has served as an example to his friends.”
