Sharabi, Elazar (Eli Azouri)


Elazar (Eli, Azouri), son of Rivka and Moshe, was born on 19.4.1955 in Rehovot. He studied at the Moriah State religious elementary school in Rehovot and continued his studies at the Ahuzat Yaakov high school in Gan Yavneh. Elazar was a diligent student, diligent in preparing lessons and was loved by his teachers and accepted by his friends. The principal of his school wrote: “Elazar was an orderly, courteous, pleasant and cheerful student, who was loyal to the school and to his teachers, whose generosity was rare, and kindness was the quality of all his family, but he excelled in it. He was a noble man and a great man. ” Elazar was a sports fan and was enthusiastic about judo. He devoted his spare time to reading in various fields, doing handicrafts, wood and metal. Elazar was a Ben of Torah and was very careful about observing the commandments and the rules of tradition. He was pleasant, forgiving, and kind. My friendship was very easy to make friends, and many of his companions wanted his closeness. He was always willing to help others, was interested in the problems of people who approached him, knew good advice, and managed to mediate between friends who quarreled. Elazar was very humble in all his ways, withdrawn and a little shy, never bowed to anyone or raised his voice, loved simplicity, and knew how to be content. He was by nature punctual and did his work with faith, devotion, and humility. All his life he was a devoted son to his parents, respected and respected. Elazar was drafted into the IDF in mid-May 1973 and assigned to the Paratroopers’ Brigade, and was considered a good and disciplined soldier, and his friends and commanders saw him as an example of dedication and behavior. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, his unit was sent to Sinai, where he had to fight Egyptian commandos who raided the southern part of the peninsula On October 9, 1973, Elazar was wounded by shrapnel in his chest during one of these pursuits. (October 11, 1973), during the evening of Succoth, he was hit and killed in a battle near Abu-Rudas. Was buried in the cemetery in Rehovot and left behind his parents, brother, and four sisters, and was promoted to the rank of corporal, and his parents donated a Torah scroll to the Okashi synagogue in Rehovot.
