Sharabi, Chaim


Chaim, son of Yedidah and Nissim Sharabi, was born on 28 Iyar 5631 in the Chlenov neighborhood of Tel Aviv and attended elementary school. After completing his studies he worked in paving and weaving. He was a member of the “HaShachar” movement, which prepared the members for defensive activities in the ranks of the Hagana. From his youth he aspired to join the defenders of the people. In the War of Independence he enlisted despite his young age saying that he could not sit idly by while his mother and family were in mortal danger. Chaim served in the Givati ​​Brigade, participated in the operations of the southern Sharon region and accompanied convoys to besieged Jerusalem. His battalion attacked Tel A-Rish near Holon and conquered the hill. The enemy forces carried out a counter-attack and our forces were forced to withdraw. In this battle Chaim fell on the 19th of Nissan 5708 (April 28, 1948). He was 17 years old. Chaim was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
