Shapira, Adrian-Yosef
Adrian-Yosef, the only son of Ella and Albert, was born on November 27, 1952 in Romania, where he studied for two years in an elementary school in his hometown. The family settled in Holon and Yosef continued his studies at the Weizmann elementary school and graduated from the Kugel High School in the real world. He was an outstanding student and acquired the love of his teachers and friends. Adrian-Yosef was drafted into the IDF in mid-February 1972 and assigned to the Intelligence Corps, where he was trained as a squad commander and began to gain experience as a member of the Intelligence Corps. He took a course from intelligence inspectors and a course in deciphering. Throughout his service, he was concerned about his elderly, ill-informed parents. On every vacation he hurried home and when he could not, he called by phone, asked for their safety, and said that he was well-advised not to worry. Before the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War, he was transferred to Maoz, a “cracker” on the banks of the Suez Canal, to fulfill an intelligence mission. The stronghold, which was one of the first targets of the Egyptians, defended heroically against the attackers and two successive days led to dozens of attacks. On the 8th of Tishrei 5734 (October 8, 1973), the stronghold suffered a direct hit and Yosef fell. At first he was considered missing, but his body was later found and identified, and he was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents. After his fall, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
